Disney Just For Kids? Nah!

We all know the great place that is Disney World or Disney Land. The magical world of wonder and magic. Where dreams are made and around every corner there is another magical adventure! But when are you too old for the magic that is Disney?

Truth is....please add in a drumroll here.

You are always going to be right for Disney! That's right folks! You don't go grow out of the idea that Disney isn't just for children. And to those saying it is just for small children, I would wonder do you remember your third year old life? If you say yes you are probably lying to yourself. See most people do not remember most memories when they are that young. It is a phenomena called childhood amnesia. What is that you are probably asking. Well, it is exactly what it sounds like. The memories from childhood are hard to remember or even impossible. Hamilton tells us that most children by the age of 8 only remember 40% of their early childhood memories.

So you see that three year old being drug around the park? Yeah, that kid probably won't remember this trip. Not unless Micky's head falls off. I know. I know. That is a gruesome thought. That is the thing though. It packs a lot of emotion into the memory. See, memories work best when they are tied to extreme emotions. Ones that provoke fear, joy, sadness, or maybe even anger. For me some of my strongest memories are the ones that were very sad or super scary. I vividly remember my first trip to the zoo because a hippo scared the living daylights out of my five year old self. But I don't really remember my great-grandmother that held me or the birthday party I got my first pair of roller skates at. It is part of life that people forget. But for that kid unless something drastic and emotion filled happens they probably won't remember it.

But Disney has never been just for kids though. In fact there are several things for adults to do while their kids are off doing something else. Or if you don't have kids you will find plenty of fun things going on in the parks. Disney himself wanted a place where adults and children could come and enjoy a time together. That was his plan. He wanted to keep the child alive in all of us. Sure, do us adults know that the characters are just that? Yes. But if you don't focus too hard the magic of Disney is right there. So be it six or eight six the goal of disney is to keep dreams and childhood whimsy alive.

There are people out there complaining that young adults are wasting their money on trips to disney when they could travel the world and meet different people. I argue every time you go to Disney you are meeting different people. People from all over the world flock to Orlando, Florida. For a one day ticket at disney it is currently $109. As of writing this article there is sale happening that is $316 for a four night stay at Disney. A flight using Norwegian Airlines is $1268. That is just the flight for one person. Sure you could get cheaper if you want to have multiple stops but is it worth flying for 27 hours? That is up to you on that one. The prices add up no matter where you go, but honestly, Disney is looking more and more travel friendly. Plus, at Disney there are thrill rides to do rather than sit on an airplane.

So, the bottom line here is, Disney is for everyone. It always has been for everyone. For those who are complaining about people wasting money on it, it isn't your money they are spending. Why are you so worried about it in the first place? Let them be happy in a world that is a not so happy place right now. Sure, they could travel around the world, but let's face the facts here. Going to a place where dreams are made and feeling like a princess or a prince for a little bit just seems a little better.
